Q.
Does CCE support dual processors ?
|
|
A.
Yes. We recommend dual CPUs for high speed MPEG2 encoding.

Q.
Does CCE support Hyper-Threading technology ?
|
|
A.
No. CCE is a really optimized software, and we do not recommend using Hyper-Threading technology.

Q.
CCE stops while encoding without any error. (Only CCE-Basic)
|
|
A.
It seems to be caused by the wrong registration. Please confirm that your license information is properly registered. You can see that on About tab from Help menu in the standalone version. If it is wrong or missing, you cannot output longer than 3 minutes MPEG video.

Q.
What is the difference between CCE-Basic and CCE-SP ?
|
A.
CCE-Basic has the same encoding engine as CCE-SP, but it is a subset of CCE-SP with simpler settings. CCE-SP is designed for "high-end professional compressionists" who require advanced/detailed settings.
e.g.,
- Chapter list
- Automatic/manual 3:2 cadence correction
- Multipass VBR encoding
- GOP-wise bit allocation for Multi-pass VBR
- Frame-wise quality settings, filters and dithered quantization
- Quantization matrix setting
- Still-image sequence can be used as a source.
You can also find a more detailed comparison table at Appendix A (page 55) in the User's Guide of CCE-Basic.
You can download trial version of both products. Please try them.

We believe you can understand why high-end compressionists loves CCE-SP.

Q.
We keep getting a "GDI+ does not exist error" (or ".mov : unknown type") when importing QuickTime movies.
|
|
A.
The problem happens when the extension .mov (or .dif) is not associated with QuickTime. Please run QuickTime player and open Edit/Preferences/QuickTime Preferences/File Type associations. And see if "Macintosh file types" is selected. If not, select it.

Q.
How can I output VBR Program Streams ?
|
|
A.
CCE-Basic does not output VBR program streams. We have no plan to implement the multiplexer for VBR elementary streams. If you would like to multiplex VBR video elementary stream with audio, please use third party multiplexer or authoring software which accepts video and audio elementary streams.

Q.
How should I choose the value for "Luminance" ?
|
|
A.
Basically "16 to 235" should be selected. If your capture board uses "0 to 255", it will be better to choose "0 to 255".

A.
Could you reinstall QuickTime with "Recommended" install option, then try again ?

Q.
Motion in output MPEG is jerky. How can I set the field order ?
|
|
A.
If the field order is wrong, it causes jerky motion in output MPEG. The combination of "Output top field first stream" option and "Offset line" setting affects the field order. Please read 2.7.10 - 2.7.11 (page 28) to set the field order.

Q.
I did set chapter points in CCE. But when authoring, the points are not recognized as DVD chapter points by the authoring software. (Only CCE-SP)
|
|
A.
A chapter point you set in CCE is just encoded as I frame. To use it as a chapter point for DVD, you need to set it in your authoring software.

Q.
MPEG files encoded by CCE fail in authoring. Why ?
|
|
A.
When VBR encoding in "DVD" mode, CCE writes 9,800kbps as max bitrate at the sequence header for more flexible bit allocation. (Note that actual bitrate does not exceed your max bitrate setting.) Some authoring softwares seem to calculate the bitrate for a DVD using this 9,800kbps as video bitrate. And when multiplexing with PCM audio, they consider the total bitrate out of DVD acceptable range 10.08 Mbps. To avoid this problem, please select "MPEG-2" mode instead of "DVD" mode. Then the max bitrate on the sequence header will be the value you specified.
